A birthday letter to Elijah

Happy birthday sweet baby boy!

It hard to believe we have know who you are for four months already. We’ve gotten your bed already for you and have a hard time not buying something for you every time we walk in the store.

Today is bitter sweet as we marked another milestone in your life that we don’t get to be with you. Not a day goes by that we don’t think of and pray for you. But today, you were at the very forefront of our minds as we celebrated your 1st birthday from afar. We got to spend the evening with some of our favorite families at our adoption group where a dear friend even made you the most spectacular birthday cake complete with candle and all. We can’t wait to hold you in our arms and bring you into your forever family.

We are so thankful for the home you are in and the love you are shown each and every day. We are thankful for the updated pictures and videos that we get showing all the new milestones you are hitting— taking your first steps on your own, growing your first teeth. With each new update comes a sense of joy that toy are doing so well, and yet a deeper longing for our family to be together.

The news this past week was hard to swallow as we realized our time apart would be a little longer than we were hoping. We are thankful that your case has finally been submitted to the ministry this past week, and we are moving one step closer to bringing you home. While we were hoping to come and meet you later this summer, it looks like it won’t be more until this fall. While we wait with eager anticipation to meet you we also wait and pray with confidence knowing that God is not surprised by this timing and that His plan is perfect to bring our family together.

So, as your birthday draws to a close, know that you are loved so much by us and even more by your Heavenly Father. We can’t wait to bring you home and celebrate each new milestone together.

Love,

Mom, Dad, & Olivia
